Rabbi Lau, former Chief Rabbi: " With the help of the Almighty, this beautiful medical center, with the most up-to-date technology, will be built as soon as possible. We are not speaking here about luxury. We are speaking about medical treatment, about saving the lives of people who need it. Without your support, they will have nowhere else to turn." |
Mr. Katznelson, Chairman of the National Lottery: " Five years ago, when I was Deputy Mayor of Ashdod, I had a dream together with Mayor Tzvi Tzilker to build a hospital in Ashdod, the fifth-largest city in Israel. I live in Ashdod and know how important an emergency room is to all the residents of our City. A medical center that can be reached quickly can mean the difference between life and death. " |
Mr. Natan Sharansky: " As a member of Knesset I signed many petitions demanding that there be a hospital in Ashdod… Ashdod is a unique city, absorbing all the waves of Jewish immigration. We signed petitions and I think we even succeeded in passing a law, but the bottom line was always that the State of Israel doesn't have the money to initiate this enterprise. That's why your generosity and the people who are here to make it happen is so important. Israel belongs to all the Jewish people of the world. … You cannot think about Israel as the place for all the Jews of the world, if you're not able to face such a simple challenge as building a hospital in one of the biggest cities of Israel. And when the finance minister says Israel doesn't have enough money, the Jews of the world say, "Okay, if Israel doesn't have the money, we will help with money." This is in fact what is happening today. " |
MK Rabbi Yaakov Litzman, Chairman of the Finance Committee: "This project is the outcome of tragic incidents in which a number of children suffered harm due to the long distance it took to transport them to area hospitals in Rechovot and Ashkelon. Unfortunately, to this day the children have not fully recovered. Therefore, from the moment that Ashdod has come to the fore as Israel's fifth-largest city, it undoubtedly needs and deserves a hospital of its own. We have no idea what it is to save one Jewish life, the feeling a person has who sees someone drowning and succeeds in rescuing him – it is indescribable! How much more so, when saving many lives. I am very gratified to be part of this lofty project." |
Ashdod Mayor Engineer Zvi Zilker: "In the city that now has a population of close to 250,000. It is vital to build this project, since it is a matter of saving lives, saving organs, keeping one's sanity, enabling people to visit the sick. We have thousands of olim from Ethiopia. How can they afford to drive to Kaplan or Barzilai? I personally know of people who do not purchase all the medications on their prescriptions because they lack the funds. We don't know how many good souls were harmed in Ashdod that would have been saved "if there would have been a hospital." That is water under the bridge; what we have to do now is build the facility as quickly as possible. I spoke to the city engineer. If the plans come to us on Sunday, we will authorize them on the same day – that's how we work. We are the most serious team in the State of Israel, and the contractors are the best available. Thank you from the depths of my heart. It's not as if I am helping JHFI; they are helping the citizens of Ashdod to receive what they deserve. ." |
