Women's Health Center
There is growing need for accessible, quality health care for women in Ashdod and surrounding areas. Socioeconomic factors prevalent in this region, such as low levels of income and education, large working class and immigrant populations, the presence of many orthodox households with numerous children, tend to increase the demands on community medicine.

Prenatal care, monitoring of high risk pregnancies, and emergency gynecological treatments will all be available at the Women’s Health Unit of the Ashdod Emergency Medical Center. Surgical interventions will include diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy and laparoscopy for uterine problems, in addition to dilation and curettage (D and C) procedures.

The women of Ashdod and environs will not only benefit from the high level of medical care available at the Women’s Unit; they will also benefit from its tranquil interior design and soothing atmosphere during diagnosis and treatment. An attractive children’s play area will also be available on site. Two rooms will be specifically dedicated to surgical interventions. The Unit will have its own advanced ultrasound equipment.

The Mammography Unit
The Mammography Unit will be a key feature of the innovative Women’s Health Center at the Ashdod Emergency Medical Center. It will include an area of 82 sq meters (865 sq ft).
One woman in eight falls victim to breast cancer. In view of this high incidence, mammography testing is essential beginning at a relatively early age and must be performed frequently. If detected early, breast cancer is very treatable. The survival rate with early diagnosis approaches 97 percent. This life-saving facility will be utilized fully and will be a significant component of our outpatient diagnostic facilities.

The examination room will house the most advanced mammography equipment available. Though self- and clinical examinations are important, today’s digital mammography uses a computer-based technique that can detect lumps before they can be felt.

The Mammography Unit will be aesthetically designed and tastefully furnished to help alleviate patient anxiety. For the convenience of mothers of small children, it will include a play space so children can entertain themselves while mothers undergo the exam.

For the further benefit of the community, a breast health awareness program is planned. Its aim will be to foster awareness about the importance of early screening and to increase screening rates. This educational project will be implemented with the full cooperation of local health clinics.
